The World of Holstin

A Polish town has been shrouded in darkness due to an unforeseen power that ripples throughout. You are looking for Bartek, your friend who went missing went everything initially went down the drain, so to speak.

You must explore the empty town as you try to work out what his last steps were, and why Bartek never found a way to escape. The rare people you do bump into are either unhelpful or just plain strange, acting more like zombies than humans.

90s Gloom

Holstin is a pixel game, which manages to capture a 3D environment with incredible shading, lighting and textures. In combat, you switch from the usual isometric view to a third-person, over-the-shoulder view. This allows you to engage more in combat as you can see your enemies approach you in grisly detail.

The graphics perfectly capture the gloomy atmosphere of a semi-abandoned town, with enshrouded corners, discarded objects casting shadows on walls, and dim lights that have been left on. The dark colour palette sets the scene, calling back to the muted colours of 90s horror.

Uncover the Truth

As expected in any psychological horror, you must work out a range of puzzles, some of which can be solved by interacting with residents you meet.

You have to decipher whether they’re trustworthy or not… or whether they can trust you. Don’t be surprised if you’re turned away many a time – they’re not going to trust a stranger.
