Developer Solar Forge Games have launched Tower Rush on iOS and Android, and it offers a genuinely interesting take on the well worn Tower Defense genre.

A PvP title that sees you face off against other players on a shared battlefield, it asks you to choose whether you place defensive structures to stop enemy forces – or support towers to strengthen your own army.

The main reason we’ve fallen for Tower Rush though is how it gets the pace of everything just right. Matches are fast but never overwhelming, challenging but never frustrating. 

For a free to download title those are not easy things to balance by any means, but this manages it. You’ll actually want to spend time customising your battle deck, making sure it’s set up perfectly for each encounter you’ll face – and doing so is always easy and intuitive, never a faff. Again, no mean feat.  

Then there’s the eye catching presentation and involving plot, with the game set in a fantasy world that asks you to fight to help an heir reclaim their lost kingdom.
